Eggnog Pound Cake Recipe

If you do have some eggnog, here is a wonderful pound cake to make with it, a cake that celebrates all things eggnoggy (new word, just made it up). Like eggnog, it is well spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice. It has flecks of sweetened dried cranberries and orange zest. Like eggnog, it can be made virgin (not alcohol), or spiked, with brandy or rum. Recipe updated, first posted 2007 To make the cake in a standard loaf pan, cut the ingredients in half (use 3 eggs), use a 5- x 9-inch or 4- x 8-inch loaf pan, and bake for about 50 minutes....

Grape And Walnut Side Salad With Blue Cheese Dressing Recipe

The Best Greens for This Salad I like to use at least two different greens for this recipe, but three or four are even better. I often bring home an assortment of lettuces from the market to use all week. I like the contrast of colors and textures. I may have a small head of kale and radicchio as my starting point. Then, I add to that according to what I have in the fridge....

Grilled Lamb Skewers With Haitian Epis Recipe

Marinate lamb in the delicious finger licking Haitian epis paste, along with some Maldon salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika for additional color and a slightly smoky flavor. Add onions or sweet bell peppers to the skewers, if you like but this is completely optional (I used red onions to simply add some crunch and additional sweetness to the lamb). What Is Epis Paste? Haitian epis is made from a blend of fresh herbs, onions, garlic, and peppers (both sweet and spicy peppers)—the exact ingredients and quantities will differ from person to person....

Grilled Tomatillo And Corn Salsa Recipe

The grill. Get some char on the main ingredients (in this case tomatillos and corn); the resulting smoky flavor is out of this world. It’s why “fire roasted” canned tomatoes are so perfect for Mexican and Tex Mex recipes. Grilling your tomatillos will make a regular tomatillo salsa unforgettable. Grilling tomatillos couldn’t be easier. You just husk them and put them on the hot grill until they are lightly charred....

Grilled Trout With Dill And Lemon Recipe

Just the reel mind you. I was 10 years old, and I never did get a fishing rod for that reel. The fishing rod I did have came with its own reel and was the type with which you used a little bobbing float and a hook to attach something wriggly. Hapless in the fishing department, I eventually gifted my gear to my younger brother and stuck to collecting crawdads, tadpoles, and minnows....

Gyeran Jjim Korean Steamed Eggs Recipe

This dish is traditionally made by cooking beaten, simply seasoned eggs in a ttukbaegi, a small earthenware pot, or in a heat-proof bowl set over a pot of simmering water. Sometimes it can feel cumbersome when short on time, so it’s become common to make gyeran jjim in the microwave. My version of gyeran jjim is tender, custardy “steamed” eggs seasoned with dashi powder and with chopped crab sticks and diced scallions for a hit of savory flavor....

Ham And Asparagus Strata Recipe

This ham and asparagus strata is basically a breakfast casserole, taken up a notch or two. It’s a layered casserole with cubes of rustic bread, eggs, Gruyere cheese, milk, cream, diced ham, and asparagus. It feeds a crowd. You can easily make ahead. Leftovers (if you have them, which I seriously doubt) will reheat beautifully for days. Sprinkle half of the ham cubes over the bread. Sprinkle half of the asparagus over the ham....

Homemade Condensed Cream Of Chicken Soup

How to Make Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup To make this homemade condensed cream of chicken soup, I took a page from making gumbo and started with a roux, which is a combination of fat and flour that helps to thicken soups, intensify flavors and keep the fat from separating out from the other liquids in the soup. The darker the roux the more flavorful the soup, but how dark you go is up to you....

Homemade Honey Mustard Recipe

The unique mustard ingredients in this recipe all function for flavor, with brown sugar providing a richness, apple cider vinegar for tartness, and black peppercorns for added warmth. And just enough honey to sweeten a dip for chicken wings, a vinaigrette, or a glaze for baked salmon. What is Honey Mustard? Most honey mustards use the milder yellow mustard seeds to temper the pungent nature of mustard, and then sweeten it up with honey....

How To Clean Leeks A Step By Step Guide

It’s majestic, a titan in the onion family. Mostly just the white and light green parts are eaten, though the darker green parts have plenty of flavor and can either be cooked longer to tenderize them, or used when making homemade soup stock. Leeks Are Dirty The challenge when cooking with leeks is that they are almost always dirty. When leeks are grown, soil is piled up around them, so that more of the leek is hidden from the sun, and therefore lighter in color and more tender....

I Finally Bought An Air Fryer And I M Glad I Did Here S Why

With the model I bought, a Ninja air fryer, I spent a week making at least two meals a day and reheating leftovers. It’s so easy to use even without reading the instruction manual. I’m here to report that I won’t be returning it for my money back. Here are the two reasons I am glad I got an air fryer and if you’re on the fence, it’s time. Go for it....

Italian Wedding Soup Recipe

Versions of the soup have been made all over the Mediterranean for centuries. It’s a nourishing meal that’s easy enough for any weeknight. Why Is It Called Italian Wedding Soup? Calling this Italian wedding soup"is somewhat of a misnomer since the dish is unrelated to weddings. The name is said to come from the words “minestra maritata,” which mean “married soup.” Here, rather than the couple joining together, it’s all the flavors in the pot that balance each other so well....

Kimchi Stuffing Recipe

My family moved to America in the late 70s and adopted so many American traditions. Thanksgiving was one of our favorite holidays, because it revolved around food. We love to eat, and we love to cook. This was a holiday made for us! Any excuse to cook too much food and stuff our bellies sounded like a holiday made in heaven. Each year, we used to make two stuffing recipes: one boxed stuffing mix purchased at the store and one Korean kimchi stuffing that my mom invented....

Lemon Za Atar Potatoes Recipe

These potatoes make for a tasty, starchy side for a low-key dinner or your next holiday spread. You can dress ‘em up with some crumbled feta and fresh dill, though it’s certainly not necessary. I prefer a waxy potato like Yukon Golds for this recipe, but you can use russets instead—they’re just a bit starchier. My Secret to Oven-Roasted Potatoes My favorite oven-roasting technique for potatoes is adding a bit of water to the sheet pan....
